We are now running live Sunday services as well as our online services. We listen to worship together and share a live preach. We also run separate kids work and youth bible studies during the service. We have of course put in all the necessary measures to make these meetings safe so YOU MUST BOOK IN first. Please contact the office for more details.
Reflections for the Week
In v27-31 we see five prohibitions & admonitions – aka ‘Do nots’…
v27-28…
DO NOT withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.
DO NOT say to your neighbour, “Come back tomorrow & I’ll give it to you” when you already have it with you.
Do the right thing at all times to all people, if they deserve it!
This seems wrong to us but Solomon is not encouraging us to be mean to people who do not deserve fair treatment. Instead he is trying to ensure that we do not unfairly treat the deserving and innocent, thus coming under the Lord’s discipline.
Grace teaches us that we should teach all people fairly, as God dealt fairly with us. Some people like exercising power over others because they can! They like to ‘lord it over others’ but that’s not us!..
Jn. 13:35 “By this shall all men know that you are my disciples that you love one another.”
Jn. 3:16 “God loved the world.” So should we!
v29-30…
DO NOT plot harm against your neighbour, who lives trustfully near you.
DO NOT accuse anyone for no reason— when they have done you no harm.
We may not harm or falsely accuse others, but don’t hang out with those who will.
Pr. 1 & 1 Cor. 15:33 both warn: Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
v31…
DO NOT envy the violent or choose any of their ways. Violent = oppressor, bully.
It’s easy to look at the wicked & envy their success, wealth, possessions etc. Why not? See v32…
Psalm 121
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; 8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
