Sabbath is a big topic so I would encourage you to consider reading more in your own time – here are some book recommendations to get you started…
I think the best FIRST book to read about why and how to keep the sabbath is The Ruthless Elimination Of Hurry by John Mark Comer. It’s not deeply theological but mixes good theology and practical advice to get you started. Following that, if you’d like something more theologically structured, then look at The Rest Of God by Mark Buchanan. These two will give you a solid foundation but there are plenty more that you can dip into…
- Ten by J John – has a great chapter on Sabbath; again, a great mix of theology and practical advice.
- Ordering Your Private World by Gordon Macdonald – has an excellent and helpful chapter on sabbath called “Rest Beyond Leisure”.
- Christ Plays in Ten Thousand Places by Eugene Peterson – whilst I’ve not read it all (yet), this book will definitely make you think… in a good way!
- Sabbath As Resistance by Walter Brueggemann – I’ve not read it yet but it’s on my list and comes highly recommended by a trusted friend.
If you’d like a testimony of Sabbath, have a look at these videos from Charlie Kirk and his wife…
